Donald Trump, who was recently elected as the next President, returned to Washington on Wednesday as Biden Hosts Trump for Presidential Transition Talks. It was his first time back at the White House since losing the 2020 election. He met with President Joe Biden for a special ceremony, showing a peaceful transfer of power. Trump thanked Biden for making the transition smooth, and Biden replied with “You’re welcome.” They did not answer any questions from reporters.
Later, Trump and Biden had a private meeting that lasted more than 90 minutes. They talked about important issues, including the war in Gaza, the hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During his campaign, Trump had promised to end the Ukraine war if he became President again. They also discussed funding for the government, emergency disaster aid, and how to ensure a peaceful transfer of power.
Unlike in 2020, when Trump did not meet Biden during the transition, this time they met. Last Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris publicly accepted defeat at an event in Washington.
First Lady Jill Biden also welcomed Trump and gave him a handwritten letter for Melania Trump. The letter offered congratulations and said her team was ready to help with the transition.

Officials from both Biden’s White House and Trump’s incoming team are expected to meet for further discussions. Several key staff members from Trump’s team traveled with him to the White House. Trump also announced new senior staff for his White House team: Dan Scavino, Stephen Miller, James Blair, and Taylor Budowich will take on important roles to help manage different aspects of his administration.
