Salman Akram Raja resigned as Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday, amidst increasing criticism of party leadership after the Islamabad protest.
Sources have reported that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has verified the receipt of Salman Akram Raja’s resignation.
The party leaders are being closely watched following the withdrawal of PTI workers from D-Chowk in Islamabad, where they failed to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan.
The ex-governing party is facing chaos after many of its members were arrested during a large-scale operation against PTI protesters in Islamabad.
Sources have indicated that further resignations are likely to follow PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja’s decision to step down.
It is important to note that in September, PTI founder Imran Khan had designated Salman Akram Raja as PTI’s new secretary general.
Conversely, the political committee of the PTI in Islamabad gathered to discuss the situation following the party’s protest.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of initiating legal action following reported fatalities in incidents during the PTI demonstration.
Previously, Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, declared that the PTI will persist with its protest across Pakistan despite the crackdown on party members in Islamabad.
During a press conference in Mansehra, Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the PTI has consistently conducted peaceful protests, while also respecting the importance of law and democracy.
