The PCB has named Sumair Ahmad, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the board, as the Tournament Director for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan.
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi stated that Sumair is a highly organized professional with extensive administrative knowledge, regarding the appointment. With his strong dedication to cricket, I believe he will create a memorable ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for everyone involved.
He added that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will demonstrate Pakistan’s capacity to hold top-tier cricket events, inviting players and supporters from all over the world to witness the country’s love for the sport and famous hospitality.
Earlier this month, the BCCI informed the ICC that their team will not participate in the event set to take place in Pakistan during the February-March period in 2025.
Afterwards, it was reported that the PCB, following government orders, sent a letter to the ICC refusing a hybrid tournament model.
The PCB asked for explanation regarding BCCI’s decision not to visit Pakistan, which prompted the ICC to inquire about India’s reasons for declining to play in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
In the meantime, it was reported that the broadcasters were pressing the ICC to promptly unveil the timetable for the Champions Trophy 2025.
The release of the schedule on November 12 was postponed because the Indian government declined to send its team to Pakistan for the event.
The broadcasting rights, given to broadcasters until 2027 for a record $3 billion, depend heavily on the popularity of key matches, especially those between Pakistan and India, which consistently attract the most viewers.
Releasing the schedule early would help broadcasters plan promotions and commercials for important events more effectively.
